Buffer Tanks tend to be used in conjunction with renewable energy installations and in particular solid fuel systems, where the heat is dumped and stored in the buffer tank then used throughout the rest of the day.

This can cause the chiller or the boiler to short cycle, resulting in reduced operating efficiency and shorter equipment life. Buffer Tank is one that is installed to add extra capacity to any system that contains fluid.
